  • It causes the spine to lean forward unnaturally

  • It leads to muscle strain, especially in the neck, shoulders, and lower back

To reduce risk and protect your child’s back, follow these simple guidelines:

  1. Choose the Right Backpack

    • Look for wide, padded shoulder straps and a padded back

    • Multiple compartments help distribute weight evenly

  2. Check the Weight

    • A loaded backpack should weigh no more than 10–15% of your child’s body weight

    • Weigh it occasionally—you might be surprised how much is inside!

    • Encourage kids to use lockers and avoid carrying all books at once
